Measurement of the Rheumatology Awareness Level of 4th, 5th and 6th Grade Students in Uludag University Faculty of Medicine

Abstract

Rheumatology is a newly lateral branch of internal medicine and continues to improve. In this study we aimed to examine the awareness of the 4th 5th and 6th class students about rheumatologic issues. We asked 25 questions about the basic symptoms and findings of rheumatologic diseases to 368 students in total who study in The Medical School in Uludağ University implying a survey on this topic. Fifty five point four percent of the 4th class students answered the simple 20 questions as ‘wrong' or ‘no comment', while 47,7% and 40,9% of 5th and 6th class students answered similarly respectively. This study indicates the insufficiency of the students in the diagnostic approaches for the rheumato-logic diseases and the treatments and also their ignorance about the basics of rheumatology. These ratios were found to be better in the 5th and 6th class students, which were still far away to be assumed as sufficient. It would be helpful to do such surveys to indicate the educational level and the awareness of students about the basics of medical sciences more frequently.

Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi 4, 5 ve 6. Sınıf Öğrencileri Romatoloji Farkındalık Düzeylerinin Belirlenmesi

Abstract

Romatoloji, iç hastalıklarının diğer yan dallarına göre daha yeni bir bilim dalı olup gelişimini sürdürmektedir. Biz bu çalışmada Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi'nde okuyan dördüncü sınıf ve sonrası öğrencilerin romatoloji konusundaki farkındalıklarını araştırmayı amaçladık. Uludağ Tıp Fakültesinde okuyan 4, 5 ve 6. sınıf toplam 368 öğrenciye romatolojinin temel bulgularıyla ilgili toplam 25 soru içeren anket dolduruldu. Romatoloji eğitimi almış bir tıp fakültesi öğrencisinin romatoloji hakkındaki farkındalıklarını değerlendirmeyi hedefleyen 20 soruya 4.sınıf öğrencileri % 55,4 yanlış ya da fikrim yok olarak yanıt verirken, 5 ve 6. sınıf öğrencilerinde ise bu oranların sırasıyla % 47,7 ve % 40,9 olduğu görüldü. Bu çalışma tıp fakültesi öğrencilerinin romatolojinin çok temel bilgileri, hangi hastalıklarla ilgilendiği, hastalıkla-rın tanı ve tedavileri konusunda yeterince bilgi sahibi olmadıklarını göstermektedir. Bu oranlar 5 ve 6. sınıf öğrencilerinde daha iyi olmasına karşılık yeterli değildir. Bu tür anketlerin belli aralıklarla tekrarlanması farkındalığı ve eğitim düzeyini tespit etmede faydalı olacaktır.
