Current Treatment of Liver Hydatid Disease
Abstract
Cystic echinococcosis or hydatid cyst, which is common in certain regions of the world, may present a common health problem that can be encountered in each country. The most common organ involvement is the liver. Although the cysts are usually asymptomatic, growing size of cysts cause pressure symptoms or opening into biliary tree can cause complications. Although medical agents and surgical procedures used in the treatment of hydatid cysts, percutaneous interventions with minimal invasive laparoscopic surgery are performed safely in select-ed patients recently. In this review article, we used the terms of echinococcal cysts, hydatid cyst, hydatid disease, cyst hydatid, echinococ-cosis, liver hydatid cyst, hydatidosis, surgical cyst treatment, mebendazole, albendazole, praziquantel, cyst chemotherapy, PAIR, percutane-ous treatments, WHO and Garbi classification as keywords to search the latest articles via PubMed Central and reviewed the latest develop-ments about hydatid cyst disease.
