Artificial Intelligence Trends in Management Science: A Content Analysis Approach

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between artificial intelligence (AI) and management science by conducting a content analysis of publications on AI in the management literature and identifying Türkiye's position in this field. A five-stage filtering process was used to examine publications published between 2019 and 2024 in the Web of Science (WoS) database, and only 37 publications were identified as Türkiye-based. The findings indicate that Türkiye remains in the top 1% of AI research across all stages. This demonstrates that Türkiye is still at the beginning of the intersection of AI and management and has not yet established a comprehensive theoretical framework. The vast majority of publications are included in the SSCI index, and prominent topics include technical areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, design, and manufacturing. Furthermore, it was observed that, in terms of sustainability goals, publications are mostly focused on education and innovation. These findings demonstrate that research diversity in this field in Türkiye is limited and that original studies are needed at a strategic level. In these respects, the study is one of the rare studies that comprehensively analyzes Türkiye's academic position in the field of AI and management and provides an important basis for future academic policy, research and practice.
