Bizans El Yazmalarında Sodom’un Yıkımı Sahneleri

Abstract

Bu makale, 6. yüzyıla tarihlenen Viyana Genesis ve Cotton Genesis, 9. yüzyıla ait Sacra Parallela ve Biblioteca Ambrosiana cod. E49-50inf, 11. yüzyıla tarihlenen Add. MS 19352 (Theodore Psalter) ve BnF Grec 74, 12. yüzyıla ait Vat. gr. 747, Vat. gr. 746 ve İzmir A.1 adlı el yazmalarında yer alan "Sodom’un Yıkımı" sahnelerinin ikonografik yorumlarını incelemektedir. Erken Hristiyan ve Bizans sanatında, Yaratılış 19:1-38’de anlatılan Sodom ve Gomorra’nın Yıkımı, yalnızca şehrin yok oluşunu değil, aynı zamanda öncesinde ve sonrasında gelişen olayları da içerecek şekilde ele alınmıştır. Bu kapsamda, meleklerin Lut’u ziyareti, Sodom halkının Lut’un evine saldırısı, şehrin yok edilmesi ve Lut’un kızlarının babalarını sarhoş etmesi gibi sahneler, Bizans el yazmalarında farklı ikonografik kompozisyonlarla işlenmiştir. Bu çalışma, Bizans dönemine ait dokuz farklı el yazmasında "Sodom’un Yıkımı" sahnelerinin ikonografik analizini sunmaktadır. Yaratılış 19:1-38 anlatısı temel alınarak, sahnelerin kronolojik gelişimi, ikonografik tercihleri ve anlatının teolojik bağlamla ilişkisi incelenmiştir. Çalışma, bu sahnelerin zaman içinde nasıl şekillendiğini, farklı el yazmalarında hangi ikonografik unsurların ön plana çıktığını ve belirli figürlerin anlatıya nasıl entegre edildiğini ortaya koymaktadır.

Destruction of Sodom Scenes in Byzantine Manuscripts

Abstract

This article examines the iconographic interpretations of the "Destruction of Sodom" scenes found in nine Byzantine manuscripts: the Vienna Genesis and Cotton Genesis from the 6th century, Sacra Parallela and Biblioteca Ambrosiana cod. E49-50inf from the 9th century, Add. MS 19352 (Theodore Psalter) and BnF Grec 74 from the 11th century, and Vat. gr. 747, Vat. gr. 746, and Izmir A.1 from the 12th century. In Early Christian and Byzantine art, the narrative of the Destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah from Genesis 19:1-38 is not limited to the city's destruction but also encompasses preceding and subsequent events. Within this framework, scenes such as the visitation of the angels to Lot, the attack of the Sodomites on Lot's house, the city's destruction, and Lot’s daughters intoxicating their father have been depicted in various iconographic compositions in Byzantine manuscripts. This study presents an iconographic analysis of the Destruction of Sodom scenes across these nine Byzantine manuscripts. Using the Genesis 19:1-38 narrative as a foundation, the research examines the chronological development of the scenes, iconographic choices, and their theological context. The study further explores how these scenes evolved over time, which iconographic elements were emphasized in different manuscripts, and how specific figures were integrated into the visual narrative.
