Canfeda Khatun was appointed to a position called “ketkhuda woman” at the Sultan Murad III (1574-1595) ’s imperial harem for twenty-one years. She was not related to royal family nor one of the sultan’s women. In official documents, Canfeda Khatun was the first concubine called as “ketkhuda woman” and her fame grown with this title. After the death of Sultan’s mother, Nurbanu Sultan (1583), Canfeda’s accompany to the Sultan became to such an extent that she had even impact on Sultan Murad’s political decisions. This study focuses on historical artefacts of her waqf, most of which are not survived to the present day, using the archival documents belonged to waqfs, particularly their accounting registers. The aim of this study is to reveal the new aspects of Canfeda Khatun who was a rare example of the harem, and analyse her waqfs.
Bu çalışmanın konusu Sultan III. Murad’ın (1574-1595) hareminin “kethüda kadını” Canfeda Hatun’un hayatı, serveti ve vakıf eserlerinin değerlendirilmesidir. Sultanın ailesinden veya kadınlarından olmayan Canfeda Hatun resmi belgelerde bu unvanla anılan ilk kadındır. Harem-i hümayunda 1583’te Nurbanu Sultan’ın vefatıyla öne çıkmış, Sultan III. Murad’a yakınlığıyla çeşitli devlet işlerine müdahale etmiştir. Çoğu ortadan kalkan ve unutulan vakıf eserleri bu çalışmada muhasebe defterleri başta olmak üzere çeşitli vakıf belgelerinden ele alınır. Çalışmanın amacı; haremin bu az rastlanır karakterinin hayatı, serveti ve vakıf eserlerinin ortaya konulmasıdır.

The articles sent to the Journal of Waqfs with a request for publication are subject to preliminary examination by the Editorial Board and at least two academicians who are experts in their fields are sent for review. The copyright of the articles accepted to be published in the Journal of Waqfs with the referee reports and the decision of the Editorial Board is deemed to have been transferred to the General Directorate of Foundations, and a royalty fee is paid to the published articles in accordance with the relevant legislation.
