Sarcosporidiosis in Horses in Van Border Line (Van-Iran Border )

Abstract

This study was conducted on 35 horses living in the regions close to the eastern border of Van and used as pack animals and died from various causes. After necropsy, oesophagus and diaphragm samples were examined with trypsin method. 27 (77.1%) of the horses were infected with Sarcocystis sp. cysts. The microscopic examination revealed that 23 (65.7%) of the horses were infected with S. equicanis and 4 (25.7%) S. fayeri. Although 18 and four horses were infected only with S. equicanis and S. fayeri respectively. Both species of cysts were identified in five horses. The rates of detection of S. equicanis and S. fayeri in the oesophagi and diaphragm were 55.5 - 29.6% and 29.6 – 3.7%, respectively

Van Sınır Hattında (Van-İran Sınırında) Atlarda Sarcosporidiosis

Abstract

Araştırma, Van ili ve çevresinde İran sınıra yakın bölgelerde genellikle taşımacılıkta kullanılan ve çeşitli nedenlerle ölen 35 at üzerinde yapılmıştır. Nekropsi sonrası alınan özofagus ve diyafram numunelerinin tripsin tekniği ile muayeneleri neticesinde 35 hayvanın 27’si (%77.1) Sarcocystis kistleri ile enfekte bulunmuştur. Bu kistlerin yapılan mikroskobik incelemesi sonucunda S. equicanis (%65.7) ve S. fayeri (%25.7) türleri olduğu belirlenmiştir. Enfekte olan 27 atın 18’inde S. equicanis, dördünde S. fayeri yalnız başına bulunurken beş atta ise her iki tür miks halinde bulunmuştur. Sarcocystis equicanis özofagusta %55.5, diyaframda %29.6, S. fayeri ise özofagusda %29.6, diyaframda %3.7 oranlarında rastlanmıştır
