Leptin and Metabolic Effects

Abstract

Leptin; a metabolic hormone was recently discovered
and has increased importance in the metabolism. Although the location of
secretion and the target of leptin was known as adipose tissue, recent studies
have shown that other part of body could also produce leptin and its receptor.
Many metabolic effects of leptin could be done by the interacting receptors in
central nervous system and peripheral tissues. In this review, the structure,
secretion of leptin its effect on the carbohydrate and lipid metabolism and
weight gain was evaluated.

Abstract

Leptin, son zamanlarda keşfedilen ve önemi giderek artan metabolik bir
hormondur. Leptinin esas salınım yeri ve etkisi yağ dokusu olarak bilinse de,
yapılan son çalışmalar leptinin ve leptin reseptörlerinin vücudun diğer
organlarında da üretildiğini kanıtlamaktadır. Leptin metabolik etkilerinin çoğunu
merkezi sinir sisteminde ve periferik dokularda bulunan reseptörlerle
etkileşerek göstermektedir. Bu derlemede, leptinin yapısı, salgılanması,
karbonhidrat ve lipit metabolizmasına, kilo artışına etkisi
değerlendirilmiştir.
