Abstract
In the study, the nomination files of the candidate countries (Turkey and Germany) for hosting the 2024 European Football Championship, which is one of the most prestigious international football organizations, are examined and analysed in detail within the scope of vision of the countries, the stadiums, the availability of accommodation and training areas, transportation facilities, fan zones and other main headings as part of the UEFA evaluation criteria. Although Turkey's candidacy in the eyes of UEFA is generally positive, insufficient presence of Turkey's international accessibility and few number of airlines and airport with the limited transportation infrastructure; insufficient number of hotel capacity in the cities and low level of social infrastructure weaken Turkey's candidacy. Additionally, the limited organizational experience of Turkey's candidate cities; lack of an action plan in the field of human rights; worries that the current economic developments could put public investments that are planned for 2024 European Football Championship at risk can be listed as negative aspects of Turkey's candidacy. In Germany current transportation infrastructure, accommodation and training opportunities are above expectations; it is seen that the social infrastructure and organization experience of the candidate cities are at the top level, and most importantly not to anticipate new investments just for the European Football Championship is seen as an important plus. In conclusion, Germany has been seen as a safer option for UEFA and has won the nomination. It can be concluded that UEFA's decision after the vote is to maintain the brand value of the European Football Championship, not to risk the sponsorship and advertising revenues.
