The aim of the study is investigate the body perception and eating attitudes of high school students and to evaluate their relationship with BMI. The study is a descriptive study. The study group consists of 721 high school students from Fenerbahçe Anatolian High School at Kadıköy, Istanbul. A survey is applied to the participants and it contains questions on their demographic characteristics and nutritional status, eating attitude scale and body perception scale. A significant difference among BMI values of the participants and their eating attitudes is determined and those participants having the highest impaired eating attitudes are obese with 70.0% (21 people). The difference between the body perception and eating attitude of the participants is significant and participants who have low body perceptions have the highest impaired eating attitudes. There is a significant difference between the class distributions and eating attitudes of the participants and the grades with the highest impaired eating attitudes are the 11th and 12th grades with ratios of 66.9% (85 people) and 65.6% (84 people), respectively. Nearly half the participants have low body perception and 12th grade has the highest impaired body perception by 78.9% (101 people). The lowest body perception BMI group is the obese group with a ratio of 66.7% (20 people). In this regard, generally high school students' body perception is low and eating attitudes are impaired. Obese students have the highest impaired eating attitude. Those who have low body perception, have impaired eating attitude and their BMI is high.
