Abstract

Abstract

The study aims to comprehensively examine the integration of the circular economy (CE) approach into waste management practices in the healthcare sector and explore the potential transformations this integration can bring about at policy and implementation levels. By compiling numerous studies from national and international literature between 2014 and 2024, the research evaluates how CE principles can be successfully integrated into waste management policies and practices in the healthcare sector, assesses the effects of this integration on healthcare-specific waste management, and provides innovative application recommendations from a multidimensional perspective. It highlights the significant benefits that the implementation of CE principles in the healthcare sector can offer, such as reducing waste generation, enhancing resource efficiency, and supporting environmental sustainability. The primary objective of the study is to create awareness among policymakers and healthcare institution managers by reshaping waste management practices in the healthcare sector in alignment with the vision of sustainability, thereby facilitating tangible transformations and contributing to sustainable development goals. Emphasis is placed on the need for multidisciplinary collaborations and active participation of all stakeholders for the successful implementation of the proposed transformations. The study aims to raise significant awareness for the sustainable enhancement of waste management practices in the transition to a circular economy in the healthcare sector.
