Examining the Effect of Family Resilience on Children in the Context of the Films Hayat Var and Gifted Hands

Abstract

The family is the smallest unit necessary for a society to be strong and functional. Every society is responsible for maintaining its "family" to ensure its own strength and functionality. However, the elements that ensure a strong and functional family are concepts susceptible to external intervention. Issues such as poverty within the family, religious and cultural practices, social environment, intrafamilial communication and emotional support, separation/divorce, and parental attitudes influence family strength and functionality. This research examines the macro and micro-scale conditions essential for the strength and functionality of the family, the smallest unit of society, and how they affect this small structure through the films "Hayat Var" (There is Life) and "Gifted Hands." In the analysis of the films, scenes and lines aligned with the pre-determined themes were used through document analysis. Consequently, this study, aiming to utilize the educational content of the films, demonstrates that family life impacts children's personalities, their achievements, and every aspect of their future lives. Therefore, it highlights the importance of communication, social and emotional support, parental attitudes, culture, and belief systems within the family.
