Temel Yaşam Desteği Kursuna Katılan Hemşirelik/Sağlık Yüksekokulu Öğrencilerinin Kurstaki Başarı, Beklenti ve Memnuniyetleri

Abstract

Amaç: Yapılan çalışmalarda hemşirelerin temel yaşam desteği (TYD) konusundaki bilgi ve becerilerinin yetersiz olduğu bildirilmektedir. Bu çalışma, hemşirelik öğrencilerinin TYD eğitiminden beklentilerini belirlemek, TYD ön test başarılarını ve TYD kursunun öğrencilerin bilgi, beceri ve memnuniyet düzeylerine katkısını değerlendirmek amacıyla yapıldı.Gereç ve Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı tipteki araştırmanın örneklemini İstanbul’daki Hemşirelik/Sağlık Yüksekokulu’nda okumakta olan ve özel bir üniversiteye bağlı hemşirelik eğitim-araştırma merkezi ve bir vakıf kuruluşunun düzenlediği TYD kursuna katılan 125 öğrenci oluşturdu. Veriler, Kişisel Bilgi Formu, TYD Ön ve Son Test Soru Formu, TYD Beceri Kontrol Çizelgeleri ve Kurs Memnuniyet Soru Formu ile toplandı. Bulgular: Öğrencilerin %36.5’inin daha önce TYD eğitimi aldığı; bu eğitimi almış olanların TYD bilgi ön testinde daha başarılı olduğu belirlendi. Kurs öncesi bilgi puanına göre kurs sonrası bilgi puanında (ön test ortalama puanı 59.5±17.9; son test ortalama puanı 97.9±3.2) anlamlı artış görüldü (p < 0.05), kurstaki TYD beceri puan ortalaması ise 98.3±1.6 bulundu. Öğrencilerden TYD bilgilerini kurs öncesinde “çok iyi/iyi” bulanların oranı %21.6 iken, kurs sonrasında bu oran %100 idi. “Kalbi duran hasta ile karşılaştığımda TYD uygulamasını yapabilirim” diyenlerin oranı ise %49.6’dan %100’e ulaştı. Öğrencilerin kurstan memnuniyetleri yüksek düzeydeydi ve tamamı kurs ölçütlerini sağlayarak başarılı oldu. Sonuç: Önerilen standartlar doğrultusunda yapılan TYD eğitiminin, öğrencilerin bilgi ve becerilerini artırdığı, beklentilerini karşıladığı ve bu eğitimden memnuniyetlerinin yüksek olduğu görüldü

Success, Expectations, and Satisfaction Levels of Nursing/Health School Students Attending to the Basic Life Support Course

Abstract

Objectives: Studies have shown that nurses do not have adequate knowledge and skills of basic life support (BLS). The purpose of this study was to determine the expectations of nursing students about BLS training and to evaluate their pre-test BLS scores and the contribution of the BLS course to their knowledge, skill, and satisfaction levels. Materials and Methods: This descriptive study included 125 nursing students who participated in a BLS course organized by a nursing education- research center of a private university and a foundation in İstanbul, Turkey. Data were col- lected using a Personal Information Form, BLS Pre- and Post-Test Question Forms, BLS Skills Control Checklist, and a Course Satisfaction Questionnaire. Results: Prior to the BLS course, 36.5% of the participants received BLS education and pre-test scores of these students were higher. There was a significant increase in post-test BLS scores from a mean pre-test score of 59.5±17.9 to 97.9±3.2 (p < 0.05) and the mean BLS skill score was 98.3±1.6. Prior to the BLS course, only 21.6% of the students rated their BLS knowledge level as ‘very good/good’; this rating increased to 100% after the course. The percentage of nursing students who thought that they could perform BLS on a cardiac arrest patient rose from 49.6% to 100%. All the students were highly satisfied with the course and all met the course criteria and passed the course. Conclusion: The BLS course organized accord- ing to the recommended standards increased the knowledge and skills of the students, met their expectations, and satisfied the students’ needs
