The New Digital Era of Art: NFTs and Their Uses

Abstract

With the advancement of technology, the definition and boundaries of art have changed, and the digitalization trend has accelerated. NFT stands out as a technology that enables digital assets to be stored in the blockchain infrastructure and verifies their authenticity. Artists can exhibit their works online through NFT platforms and create a unique NFT for each work. In this way, works of art are digitalized, their originality is preserved, and art is made available to a wider audience. In this blockchain-based system, NFTs are unique tokens that can be bought and sold in crypto markets. NFT is a new method for storing, organizing, transporting, and programming digital information. This technology, which can be used in many areas such as art, games, entertainment, finance, supply chains and certification of physical world properties, offers new opportunities to both the owner and the producer. These broad uses of NFTs create new possibilities in many industries by enabling the ownership, trading and tracking of digital assets.
This article talks about the blockchain system, how it works, and the birth of NFTs along with the invention of smart contracts. With the acceleration of digitalization and the spread of blockchain technologies, changes in the production process of art are emphasized, and it is mentioned that NFT democratizes art by making works of art accessible to millions of people in the digital world. Emphasis is placed on Turkey's achievements in the NFT field and Turkish artists who produce pioneering projects at the international level. Information about the NFT ecosystem, main and indirect intermediaries is provided, and the ERC-721 standard, which differentiates NFT from cryptocurrencies, is explained. While emphasizing the use of NFT in various fields, attention is drawn to the difficulties brought by this technology and especially its environmental impacts. The various effects of NFT in the art world are discussed, with examples such as the destruction of physical works by converting them into NFTs. The effects of NFT in art, finance and other sectors and the future potential of this technology are discussed, and opportunities and risks in this field are evaluated.
The digitalization of art and the rise of NFTs are causing many cultural, financial, and environmental impacts. Correctly understanding the opportunities brought by technology and solving some of the negativities brought by these opportunities play a critical role in the evolution process of art and NFT.

Sanatın Yeni Dijital Çağı: NFT’ler ve Kullanım Alanları

Abstract

Teknolojinin ilerlemesiyle birlikte sanatın tanımı ve sınırları değişmiş, dijitalleşme akımı hız kazanmıştır. NFT, dijital varlıkların blok zincir altyapısında depolanmasını sağlayan, orijinalliklerini doğrulayan bir teknoloji olarak öne çıkmaktadır. Sanatçılar, NFT platformları aracılığıyla eserlerini çevrimiçi sergileyebilmekte ve her bir eser için benzersiz bir NFT oluşturabilmektedir. Bu sayede sanat eserleri dijitalleşmekte, orijinallikleri korunmakta ve sanatın daha geniş kitlelere ulaşması sağlanmaktadır. Blok zincir tabanlı çalışan bu sistemde NFT’ler, kripto pazarlarında alınıp satılabilen benzersiz tokenlerdir (dijital varlık). NFT, dijital bilgileri depolamak, organize etmek, taşımak ve programlamak için yeni bir yöntemdir. Sanat, oyun, eğlence, finans, tedarik zincirleri ve fiziksel dünya mülklerinin sertifikasyonu gibi birçok alanda kullanılabilen bu teknoloji hem sahibine hem de üreticisine yeni fırsatlar sunmaktadır. NFT'lerin bu geniş kullanım alanları, dijital varlıkların mülkiyetini, ticaretini ve izlenmesini sağlayarak birçok sektörde yeni olanaklar yaratmaktadır.
Bu makalede, blok zincir sisteminden, nasıl çalıştığından, akıllı kontratların icat edilmesiyle beraber NFT’lerin doğuşundan bahsedilmektedir. Dijitalleşmenin hızlanması ve blok zincir teknolojilerinin yaygınlaşmasıyla sanatın üretim sürecindeki değişiklikler vurgulanmakta, NFT'nin sanat eserlerinin dijital dünyada milyonlarca kişi tarafından erişilebilir olmasını sağlayarak sanatı demokratikleştirdiğine değinilmektedir. Türkiye'nin NFT alanındaki başarılarına ve uluslararası düzeyde öncü projeler üreten Türk sanatçılara vurgu yapılmaktadır. NFT ekosistemi, ana ve dolaylı aracılar hakkında bilgiler verilmekte, NFT’yi kripto paralardan farklılaştıran ERC-721 standardı açıklanmaktadır. NFT'nin çeşitli alanlarda kullanımını vurgulanırken, bu teknolojinin getirdiği zorluklara ve özellikle çevresel etkilerine dikkat çekilmektedir. Fiziksel eserlerin NFT'ye dönüştürülerek yok edilmesi gibi örneklerle, NFT'nin sanat dünyasındaki çeşitli etkileri ele alınmaktadır. NFT'nin sanat, finans ve diğer sektörlerdeki etkileri ve bu teknolojinin gelecekteki potansiyelini tartışılmakta, bu alandaki fırsatlar ve riskler değerlendirilmektedir.
Sanatın dijitalleşmesi ve NFT’lerin yükselişi, kültürel, finansal ve çevresel birçok etkiye sebep olmaktadır. Teknolojinin getirdiği fırsatların doğru anlaşılması ve bu fırsatların beraberinde getirdiği bazı olumsuzlukların çözülmesi, sanatın ve NFT’nin evrim sürecinde kritik rol oynamaktadır.
