Kent sosyolojisinde eşitsizlik ve direniş: Lefebvre, Harvey ve Castells’in izinde kuramsal bir tartışma

Abstract

Kentler, yalnızca fiziksel yapılar değil; aynı zamanda sınıfsal, kültürel ve mekânsal dışlama biçimlerinin yeniden üretildiği toplumsal alanlardır. Bu çalışma, neoliberal kentleşme süreçlerinin bu dışlama biçimlerini nasıl derinleştirdiğini, Henri Lefebvre, David Harvey ve Manuel Castells’in kuramsal perspektiflerinden hareketle eleştirel bir bakış açısıyla incelemektedir. Lefebvre’nin “mekânın üretimi” ve “kent hakkı”, Harvey’in “birikim yoluyla el koyma” ve “mekânsal adalet”, Castells’in ise “ağ toplumu” ve “kentsel toplumsal hareketler” kuramları doğrultusunda, kentlerin sadece ekonomik değil; aynı zamanda siyasal ve kültürel mücadele alanları olduğu gösterilmektedir. Türkiye’den Sulukule, Tarlabaşı ve Fikirtepe örnekleri üzerinden mekânsal dönüşüm süreçleri analiz edilerek, dışlama mekanizmaları ile bu süreçlere karşı gelişen çok katmanlı direniş pratikleri ortaya konmuştur. Ayrıca Brezilya, Fransa ve ABD gibi ülkelerden örneklerle çok ölçekli bir karşılaştırma yapılarak, kuramların küresel bağlamda da açıklayıcı gücü test edilmiştir. Çalışma, üç kuramcıyı bütüncül biçimde ele alarak kent sosyolojisi literatürüne teorik katkı sunmakta; saha verilerine dayalı karşılaştırmalı çözümlemelerle kuram ve pratik arasında köprü kurmaktadır. Son olarak, çalışmada geliştirilen politika önerileri, toplumsal dışlanmayı azaltıcı, katılımı artırıcı ve adil mekânsal planlamayı teşvik edici ilkeler çerçevesinde yapılandırılmıştır.

Inequality and resistance in urban sociology: A theoretical discussion in the footsteps of Lefebvre, Harvey, and Castells

Abstract

Cities are not merely physical entities but also spaces where class-based, cultural, and spatial exclusions are reproduced and institutionalized. This study critically examines how neoliberal urbanization processes intensify these exclusions, drawing on the theoretical perspectives of Henri Lefebvre, David Harvey, and Manuel Castells. Through Lefebvre’s concepts of “production of space” and “right to the city,” Harvey’s notions of “accumulation by dispossession” and “spatial justice,” and Castells’ theory of the “network society” and “urban social movements,” the research reveals how cities function as arenas of political, economic, and cultural struggle. Case studies from Turkey—such as Sulukule, Tarlabaşı, and Fikirtepe—are analyzed to uncover both the mechanisms of exclusion and the multilayered forms of resistance that emerge in response. Additionally, comparative insights from Brazil, France, and the United States broaden the analytical scope, allowing for a multi-scalar assessment of the applicability of these theories in global contexts. By offering an integrated reading of the three theorists, this study contributes to urban sociology by bridging theoretical depth and empirical observation. The proposed policy recommendations are grounded in principles that aim to reduce spatial injustice, enhance democratic participation, and promote socially inclusive urban planning.
