LOOKING AT “THE MOST FAMOUS TOWER OF THE WORLD” CLOSELY

Abstract

The Turkish literature of the Republic era is a kind of literature open to new foundations, thoughts, movements and a Westernized one. The innovations tried upon different literary styles were observed during this period. On this account; Sevim Burak (1931-1983) follows a different pattern who created Works of art in the field of short story, drama and novel. In spite of having many works in different fields, she focuses on the short story type the mostly. We are going to have a close look to Burak’s short story; The Most Famous Tower Of The World (Dünyanın En Meşhur Kulesi); which she didn’t include in her books. First of all, her way of understanding short story is going to be examined. Later, we’re going to try examining this work of art from the aspects of subject and incident, thoughts, figure, point of view, techniques of narration, time, setting and language and style. Our aim is to describe Sevim Burak’s -who is a different pen to the traditional Turkish literature way of undertanding the short story and from this aspect, define her works of art which are not included in literature. On this account, we hope that this close look study, which includes the text of the story in the last part, is going to supply the author’s story world.
