FOUR ELEMENTS IN MEHMET RAUF'S EYLÜL
Abstract
Four elements( earth-water-air-fire) occupy an mportant place in Mehmet Rauf's novel, "Eylül (September)". They take roles in both patterns of situation and personalities within the novel. They show various effects on people when they change their locations. Vineyard can be explained with "earth signs", the Bosphorus with "air and water signs", and also platonic love between Necip and his friend's wife Suat can be explained with 'fire signs". This novel is basedon interactions between Necip, Suat, Süreyya who belong to fire, earth and air-water group relatively. Especially the platonic love between Suat and Necip shows same characteristics of the meeting of fire and water.
