Antibacterial Activity of Some Essential Plant Oils Againts Some Bacterial Fish Pathogens

Abstract

In this work, essential oils of clove (Eugenia caryophyllata), peppermint (Menta piperita) and lavander (Lavandula hybrida) were screened for their chemical composition and in vitro antibacterial activity against Aeromonas sobri, Aeromonas salmonicida achromogenes, Aeromonas caviae, Aeromonas hydrophila, Vibrio anguillarum, Vibrio ordalli, Vibrio alginolyticus, Yersinia ruckeri, Flavobacterium psychrophilum, Lactococcus garvieae and Vagacoccus salmoninarum. As a result of this study, it was found that clove essential oil showed a strong antimicrobial activity. However, peppermint and lavander oils were moderately effective.
