EVLİLİKLERDE UYUM VE DOYUM: ALGILANAN KİŞİLİK BENZERLİĞİ ETKİSİNİN İNCELENMESİ

Abstract

Kişilik benzerliği ve bazı demografik değişkenlerin evlilik sürecindeki etkisinin incelenmesi amacıyla yapılan bu araştırmada evlilikleri devam eden çiftlerin evlilik uyum ve evlilik doyum düzeyleriyle eşlerde algılanan kişilik benzerliklerinin ilişkisi incelenmiştir. Araştırma 2015 yılında Ankara ve İzmir illerinde ikamet eden ve evlilikleri devam eden 78’i kadın ve 71’i erkek toplam 149 katılımcı ile yürütülmüştür. Çalışmada algılanan kişilik benzerliği Beş Faktör Envanteri (BFE), evlilik doyumu düzeyi İlişki Doyum Ölçeği (İDÖ) ve evlilik uyum düzeyi Çiftler Uyum Ölçeği (ÇUÖ) ile ölçülürken demografik değişkenler için araştırmacı tarafından hazırlan bilgi formundan yararlanılmıştır. Analizler ışığında kişilik boyutlarının tamamında algılanan benzerliğin evlilik uyumu ve evlilik doyumuyla anlamlı düzeyde ilişkili olduğu görülmüştür. Bununla birlikte yapılan regresyon analizleri sonucunda evlilik doyumunu sadece dışadönüklük boyutundaki algılanan benzerlik yordarken, evlilik uyumunun yordanmasına ise dışadönüklük ve öz disiplin boyutlarındaki algılanan benzerliğin anlamlı düzeyde katkı sağladığı görülmüştür. Cinsiyet farklılığının evlilik doyumu ve evlilik uyumuyla anlamlı bir ilişkisi bulunmazken, eğitim düzeyinin evlilik doyumu ile çocuk sahibi olmanın ise hem evlilik doyumu hem de evlilik uyumuyla anlamlı ilişkisi bulunduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

ADJUSTMENT AND SATISFACTION IN MARRIAGES: AN EXAMINATION OF THE EFFECT OF PERCEIVED PERSONALITY SIMILARITY

Abstract

In this study, which was conducted to examine the effect of personality similarity and some demographic variables on the marital process, the relationship between the marital adjustment and marital satisfaction levels of couples whose marriages are continuing and the perceived personality similarities in spouses was examined. The study was conducted with 78 women and 71 men participants residing in Ankara and Izmir provinces in 2015. In the study, perceived personality similarity was measured with the Five Factor Inventory (FFI), marital satisfaction level was measured with the Relationship Satisfaction Scale (RSS), and marital adjustment level was measured with the Couples Adjustment Scale (CAS), while the information form prepared by the researcher was used for demographic variables. Analyses revealed that perceived similarity in all personality dimensions was significantly related to marital adjustment and marital satisfaction. However, as a result of the regression analyses, only perceived similarity in extraversion predicted marital satisfaction, while perceived similarity in extraversion and self-discipline dimensions contributed significantly to the prediction of marital adjustment. While no significant relationship emerged between gender and either marital satisfaction or marital adjustment, educational attainment was significantly associated with marital satisfaction, and parenthood was significantly related to both marital satisfaction and marital adjustment.
