Anadolu – Osmanlı Halılarının Yurt Dışına İhracatı Üzerine Bir Değerlendirme (1864 – 1908)

Abstract

Bu araştırma, Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nun önemli siyasal, ekonomik ve sosyal değişimler yaşadığı 19. yüzyılın ikinci yarısından – 1864 yılı – itibaren Anadolu menşeli Osmanlı halılarının İzmir Limanı üzerinden yurt dışına ihracatını incelemektedir. Araştırma, Osmanlı halılarının özellikle de Batı Anadolu’daki üretim merkezlerinin üretim miktarları üzerine bir değerlendirmede bulunduktan sonra Osmanlı halılarının yüzyılın ikinci yarısından 1908 yılına kadar olan dönemdeki ihracatını istatistiksel veriler üzerinden değerlendirmektedir. Bu değerlendirme yapılırken İngiltere’nin Osmanlı halılarının önemli bir alıcısı olduğu ve bu önemini uzun yıllar sürdürmesindeki etkenler üzerinde durulmuş ve İzmir Limanı’nın bu anlamdaki önemi incelenmeye çalışılmıştır. Anadolu menşeli halıların İzmir Limanı üzerinden yapılan ihracatının istatistiksel değerlendirilmesi yapılırken esas kaynak grubu olarak İngiliz konsolosluk raporları kullanılmıştır. Osmanlı dış ticaret istatistiklerinin ilk defa 1878 yılında yayımlandığı göz önüne alındığında 1878’den önceki tarihsel sürecin takip edilebilmesi ve Osmanlı halılarının ihracatını anlamak ve değerlendirmek adına İngiliz konsolosluk raporlarının önemli bir kaynak grubunu teşkil ettiği anlaşılmaktadır. Bu önemli kaynak grubu kullanılarak Anadolu – Osmanlı halılarının 1908 yılına kadar olan süreçteki ihracatı seçili yıllar bazında miktar ve değer olarak açıklanmaya ve bu şekilde halı ihracatının 1864 – 1908 yılları arasındaki dökümü çıkarılmaya çalışılmıştır.

An Assessment of the Export of Anatolian - Ottoman Carpets Abroad (1864 – 1908)

Abstract

This research examines the export of Anatolian origin Ottoman carpets abroad through İzmir Port since the second half of the 19th Century - the year 1864 - when the Ottoman Empire experienced significant political, economic and social changes. After evaluating the production quantities of Ottoman carpets, especially production centers in western Anatolia, the research evaluates the exports of Ottoman carpets from the second half of the Century to 1908, based on statistical data. During this evaluation, it has been emphasized that England is an important buyer of Ottoman carpets. The factors that have sustained this importance for many years and the importance of Izmir Port in this sense have been examined. While making the statistical evaluation of Anatolian origin carpets' exports through Izmir Port, British consular reports were used as the leading resource group. Considering that Ottoman foreign trade statistics were first published in 1878, it is understood that the British consulate reports constitute a vital resource group to follow the historical process before 1878 and understand and evaluate the export of Ottoman carpets. Using this critical group of resources, the export of Anatolian – Ottoman carpets in the process up to 1908 was explained as quantity and value based on selected years. Thus the breakdown of carpet exports between 1864 and 1908 was tried to be itemized.
