Vegetable Type and Variety Preference In Turkey

According to the data of 2019, the vegetable production area in our country is 790
thousand ha, and the total production amount is over 31 million tons. Vegetable
production is carried out as an open field and protected cultivation depending on
ecological conditions. Open field vegetable cultivation is done in all regions of our
country in the form of small family businesses or large field areas without any protection
measures and this cultivation aims for fresh consumption and production for industry
use. On the other hand, in protected cultivation, production is carried out under simple
and/or high structures and is suitable for table consumption. Many factors such as
climate conditions, growing period, domestic and/or foreign market orientation of
product sales, consumer preferences, resistance to diseases and pests are effective in
the selection of species and varieties in vegetable production. In this review, vegetable
production in the open field and under protected cultivation in our country, their
characteristics, and the preferred species and varieties are evaluated.

Ülkemizde sebze üretim alanı 2019 yılı verilerine göre 790 bin ha alan olup, toplam
üretim miktarı 31 milyon tonun üzerindedir. Sebze üretimi ekolojik koşullara bağlı
olarak açıkta tarla ve örtüaltı sebzeciliği şeklinde yapılmaktadır. Açık tarla sebzeciliği,
ülkemizin tüm bölgelerinde küçük aile işletmeleri şeklindeki alanlarda ya da büyük tarla
alanlarında herhangi bir koruma önlemi alınmaksızın gerçekleştirilir ve bu yetiştiricilik
sofralık ve sanayi üretimine yönelik yapılır. Buna karşılık örtüaltı yetiştiriciliğinde
üretim, basit ve/veya yüksek yapılar altında gerçekleştirilir ve çok büyük oranda sofralık
tüketime yöneliktir. Sebze üretiminde tür ve çeşit seçiminde iklim koşulları, yetiştirme
dönemi, ürün satışının iç ve/veya dış pazar odaklı olması, tüketici tercihleri, hastalık
ve zararlılara dayanıklılık gibi pek çok faktör etkilidir. Bu derlemede ülkemizde açık
tarla ve örtüaltında yapılan sebze üretimi, özellikleri ve tercih edilen tür ve çeşitler
değerlendirilmiştir.
