Abstract

Aim: To compare the increasement rate of serum fihCG levels during the first 8 weeks of gestation in singleton and twin pregnancies Materials and Methods: This study prospecüvely assessed serum fihCG levels in 155 singelton and 105 twin gestations conceived by ICSI-ET. Three consecutive blood samples were drawn on days 12,30 and 45 following ET. Lineer regression lines were plotted and the slope of the lines were compared for the rate of fihCG increase Results: Both groups were comparable in terms of maternal age and BML In both stages (days 12-30 and 30-45), the rate of _hCG increase in twin gestations was significantly higher than singletons. In addition, in all gestation groups, the rate is significantly lower in stage 2 compared to stage 1. Conclusion: fihCG secretion increasement during the first 8 weeks of gestation is not constant and gradually decreased in advanced stages, thus this rate is more pronounced in twins compared to singletons.
