Historical Development of the Veterinary Anatomy Science in Turkey 1842-2015

Öz

Background/Aim: In this study, the development of the veterinary anatomy science between 1842 and 2015, when the education of veterinary medicine started in the context of modernity in Turkey, was evaluated. The present study aimed to investigate the developments in terms of the stages and the activities for teaching and education, training of scientists and scientific publishing of veterinary anatomy discipline. Material and Method: The research material consisted of articles and books on the subject and more particularly the documents presented in the library and in the Museum of the Department of Veterinary Medicine History and Deontology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ankara University. As of the end of 2015 when the study was limited, the analytical evaluation was carried out by reaching the number of books, publications and also master of science and PhD thesis written in the field of veterinary anatomy in Turkey. In addition, photographs which may also be accepted as related documents on the field, have also been evaluated. Results and Conclusion: It can be said that the veterinary anatomy discipline is still under progress due to founding new faculties which are within the schooling process of veterinary medicine that started in 1842 in Turkey. With this progression, it has been concluded that the veterinary anatomy science which had been regularly developing as a scientific and academic structure between 1842 and 2015, aimed to progress in both academic and post-graduate education.

Türkiye’de Veteriner Anatomi Biliminin Tarihsel Gelişimi 1842-2015

Öz

Özbilgi/Amaç: Bu çalışmada, Türkiye’de modern anlamda veteriner hekimliği eğitim-öğretimin başladığı 1842 yılı ile 2015 yılı arasında geçen sürede veteriner anatomi biliminin gelişimi değerlendirilmiştir. Veteriner anatomi disiplininin geçirdiği safhalar, eğitim-öğretim, bilim adamı yetiştirme ve bilimsel yayım faaliyetleri açısından gelişiminin araştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Materyal ve Metot: Araştırma materyalini, Ankara Üniversitesi Veteriner Fakültesi, Veteriner Hekimliği Tarihi ve Deontoloji Anabilim Dalı Müze ve kitaplığındaki belgeler başta olmak üzere, konuya ilişkin dergiler ve kitaplar oluşturmuştur. Çalışmanın sınırlandırıldığı 2015 sonu itibariyle, Türkiye’de veteriner anatomi alanında yazılmış kitap ve yayım sayıları ile tamamlanmış yüksek lisans ve doktora sayılarına ulaşılarak analitik değerlendirilmesi yapılmıştır. Yine konuyla ilgili belge niteliğinde olabilecek fotoğraflar da çalışmada değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular ve Sonuç: Türkiye’de 1842 yılında başlayan veteriner hekimliğinin okullaşma süreci içerisinde yeni veteriner fakültelerinin açılmasıyla, veteriner anatomi disiplininin bir gelişim içerisinde olduğu söylenebilir. Bu gelişim ile 1842-2015 yılları arasında bilimsel ve akademik yapı olarak düzenli bir gelişme ortaya koyan veteriner anatomi biliminin; gerek akademik, gerekse lisansüstü eğitimde ilerlemeyi kendine hedef edindiği görülmüştür.
