Smart Adaptive Zoom Algorithm and GPU Hybrid Optimization of Wi-Fi Signal Propagation in Complex Indoor Environments

Öz

The indoor performance of Wireless Local Area Networks is directly affected by signal distance and attenuation, and shadowing effects caused by physical obstacles. Therefore, one of the fastest and most cost-effective ways to improve network performance is to optimize router location. However, determining the ideal location in complex indoor environments is a computationally expensive optimization problem, and CPU-based methods require long processing times for high-resolution analysis. In this study, GPU-based hybrid optimization algorithms were developed to simulate Wi-Fi signal propagation in furnished indoor environments and determine the router location. Virtual environments were created using log-distance path loss and multiple wall attenuation models; Least Squares, Brute Force, and Smart Adaptive Zoom algorithms were compared for positioning. The results showed that the GPU-based parallel ray-casting-based propagation approach reduced computation time from hours to seconds. The proposed Smart Adaptive Zoom algorithm performed approximately 30 times faster than the Brute Force method and achieved a balance between accuracy and speed with only 0.97% deviation
