Psychiatric Problems in Patients with Breast Cancer

Öz

Cancer is a physical disorder with concurrent mental and social components. During cancer, the feelings of fear, hopelessness, guilt, helplessness, abandonment perceived as a crisis leading to destruction in the suffering person. Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women. Prevalence of psychiatric disorders among cancer patients is approximately 50% and most of disorders are related with the occurrence of cancer and cancer treatment. Majority of patients present with major depression, adjustment disorder, anxiety disorders, sleep disorders, suicidial ideation, and delirium. Treatment of psychiatric disorders and cancer therapy should be conducted along with special consideration of drug interactions. This article reviews the adaptation process experienced by individuals during diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, it psychological effects, resulting psychiatric comorbidites and their treatments.

Meme Kanserli Hastalarda Psikiyatrik Sorunlar

Öz

Kanser fiziksel bir hastalık olduğu gibi, ruhsal ve sosyal bileşenleri de olan bir sorundur. Kanser; korku, umutsuzluk, suçluluk, çaresizlik, terk edilme düşünceleriyle bir yıkım gibi algılanır ve kişinin psikolojik dengesinde krize neden olur. Meme kanseri kadınlarda en sık görülen kanser tipidir. Kanser hastalarında psikiyatrik bozuklukların yaygınlığı %50 dir ve bu bozuklukların çoğu kanser veya kanser tedavisi ile ilgilidir. Hastaların çoğunda başta uyum bozukluğu olmak üzere major depresyon, anksiyete bozuklukları, uyku bozuklukları, özkıyım, deliryum görülmektedir. Hem kanser tedavisi hem de psikiyatrik hastalıkların tedavisi ilaç etkileşimleri göz önünde bulundurularak yapılmalıdır. Bu makalede meme kanserinin tanısı ve tedavisi sırasında bireylerin yaşadığı adaptasyon süreci, psikolojik açıdan etkileri, psikiyatrik eş tanılar ve tedavileri gözden geçirilmiştir.
