Contribution of Transportation Infrastructure Investments to Economic Growth: Panel Cointegration Analysis for Selected Countries

Yıl 2018, Cilt: 6 Sayı: ICEESS’ 18, 303 - 309, 15.12.2018

This
study examines the relationship between infrastructure and economic growth
using data of selected 17 OECD countries and Russia for the period 1995 to
2015. We employ recently developed panel methods to test for unit roots and
Common Correlated Effect estimator to detect relationship among the variables.
We find mostly positive and significant long-run response of economic growth to
transportation infrastructure for the countries in this study. According to
results of the analysis; it is essential for these countries to design economy
policies which improve and increase the transportation infrastructure
investment. Based on findings, this study suggests that the public sector
providers should assess the infrastructure system as a catalyst for economic
development.
