The evaluation of the knee rotational ligament instabilities (33 cases)

Abstract

Rotational knee instability of 33 patients in Gazi University Medical Faculty Orthopaedics and Traumatology clinic, Ankara, Turkey with a coverage between March and August l987 is reported. We avaluated the subjective complaints by anterior and posterior drawer tests (AMRI-ALRI-PMRI-PLRI), jerk test and stress tests of abducton. 13 cases only arthroscopically and 2 cases as well arthroscopically as arthroscopically examined. The results of clinical and arthroscopic diagnosis have been compared. If a knee has a problem of rotational instability; whether the anterior cruciate ligaments is intaci or not, in a long period the risk of degenerative arthritis arises. If there is no rotational instability quadriceps will from pretection for the knee. As a results, even though the anterior cruciate ligament is intact, the rotational instability of the knee possibly could occur. Carreful evaluation and treatment of signle and multi-plane rotational instability may decrease the risk of degeranative arthirits.
