Reassesment of major amputations

Abstract

During the period from 1978 to 1987 a total of 116 patients were amputated in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology Clinic in Ege University Medical Faculty. Of the 122 amputations 34 (28 percent) were upper, 89 (82 percent) were lower extremity amputation. We discuss the etiology, age, sex and level of these amputations. The main etiology was trauma and the mean age was 33.1.
