Indications and results of open reduction in supracondylar fractures of the humerus in children

Abstract

Supracondylar fractures of the humerus in children are very important as regards to complications both functional and cosmetic Ieading to bad results. Having obtained acceptable and good functional results with closed reduction, many authors have preferred his type of treatment of these fractures (17, 20). However, primary open reduction is not a new method of treatment. Mac Lenan was the first author to recommend (22) and Holmberg was the first surgeon to popularize this method (18). In this article, we would Iike to present the results of the 38 humerus supracondylar fractures of the humerus in children which were primarly treated with reduction in Ankara Hospital Orthopedic Clinic between January 1986 and September 1990.
