Functional evaluation of total hip arthroplasty

Abstract

This study included 53 patients who were planned to undergo a total hip arthroplasty in Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, between November 1st 1990 and March 31st 1991. Pre- and post-operative rehabilitation procedures were administered to these patients, and they were educated about activities of daily Iiving. A special grading system was used to evaluate their functional status. At the end of the study, 27 patient were excluded for several reasons. 26 patients whose three and six month's functional examinations were completed were evaluated. At the end of the third month in 14 of 26 patients, and at the end of the sixth month in 22 of 26 patients, functional scores were increased. In conclusion, we can say that pre- and post-operative rehabilitation program for total hip arthroplasty markedly improves the functional status of these patients and make their adaptation to daily life easier.

Kalça protezi sonrası fonksiyonel değerlendirme

Öz

İstanbul Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Ortopedi ve Travmatoloji Kliniği nde 1 Kasım 1990-11Mart 1991 tarihleri arasında total kalça protezi planlanan 53 hasta çalışma kapsamına alındı. Bu hastalara pre- ve post-operatif rehabilitasyon uygulandı ve günlük yaşam aktivitelerine ilişkin eğitim verildi. Hastaların pre- ve post-operatif fonksiyonel durumları değerlendirildi. Hastaların 34'ü kadın, 19'u erkekti. Toplam yaş ortalaması 51.5 (2277) di. 27 hasta çeşitli nedenlerle çalışma dışı bırakıldı. 3 ve 6 aylık kontrolleri tamamlanan 26 hastanın değerlendirilmesi yapıldı. 3 ay sonraki kontrolde 26 hastamn 14'ünde (%53.8), 6 ay sonundaki kontrolde ise 22'sinde (%84.6) fonksiyonel durum daha iyiydi. Sonuç olarak total kalça protezi uygulanan ve pre-ve post-operatif rehabilitasyon programına alınan hastaların fonksiyonel durumlarının belirgin ölçüde düzeldiği ve günlük yaşama daha iyi uyum sağladıkları saptandı.
