Arthroscopic treatment of the osteochondritis dissecans of the knee joint

21 osteochondritis dissecans cases localized in the medial femoral condyle were treated arthroscopically. The study group consisted of 11 men and 10 women with a mean age of 19 years (17-21). The knees were fixed with a 4.0 mm cortical screw and drilled retrogradly. Arthroscopy was applied in all cases in the 3rd (third) month; in 18 cases (86%) a good degree of improvement was observed and the fixation screw taken out; but 3 cases (14%) had to be redrilled, they eventually fixated and atter a 6 month follow-up the screw was removed. In this study, the method of arthroscopic fixation of osteondritis dissecans in the knee joint and retrograde drilling of the pseudoarthrotic bed, were presented.
