Ultrasonography in the diagnosls of congenltal Dislocation of the Hip (is newborn screenlng necessary ?)

Abstract

To asses the value of ultrasonography in screening congenital hip dislocation, we ultrasonographyly examined 480 hips of 240 newborns. The risk factors, clinic and radiologic findings were compared with the ultrasonography results. The results revealed %93.4 type 1a and b, %6.6 type 2 and 3 displastic hips. The clinical examination gave %18 false pathologic results in newborns with normal ultrasonography tests. The ratio of positive clinic and positive ultrasonography results is %40, where as the ratio of negative clinic and positive ultrasonography is %60. As a conclusion, we can say that all newborns must be ultrasonographically examined in the first two weeks.
