A new technique of tibio-talar arthrodesis by the use of arthroscopy in a patient with posttraumatic degenerative arthritis.

Abstract

Since 1900, more than 30 different open techniques with 9 different approaches have been described for the fusion of the tibio-talar joint. it was reported around 60% complication rates, 20% nonunion and 5-25% infection rates with these techniques. In the recent years the popularity of arthroscopic tibio-talar arthrodesis combined with the open technique described by Morgan et al is increasing. We applied tibio-talar arthrodesis to a patient with posttraumatic osteoarthritis on behalf of these developments in our clinic.
