Synovial cystic degeneration in a ''jumper s knee'' case (Case report)
Abstract
Patellar ligament or quadriceps tendinitis, called Jumper s knee, is a lesion especially encountered in athletes involved in some type of repetitive activity such as jumping. Anatomical pathology reveals focal mucoid degeneration and microtearing at predisposed areas near the insertion of the quadriceps or patellar tendon. The process is usually unilateral and responsive to conservative treatment. A program of conservative treatment is effective in the earol stages of the disease but it fails in a high proportion of cases in the later stages. Surgeryis directed towards the tendon, rather than a bony procedure. In this paper, we reported a case of jumper s knee with a short review of contemporary literature.
