The role of anterior instrumentation on stabilization of cervical discoligamentous injuries: a biomechanical analysis

Abstract

In this study, using calf cervical vertebral column, the efficacy of anterior stabilization in the treatment of discoligamentous injuries was studied. A method that's widely used in clinical practice. There were three groups which included lesion, control (intact) and anterior stabilization groups. We applied non-destructive flexion, extension, lateral flexion and axial loading to each group and observed its effects. As a result there was no statistically significant difference between control and anterior stabilization groups although the quantitative values of the control group was better the than anterior stabilization group. In conclusion anterior stabilization although not as much as normal, provides an optimal degree of stabilization
