Treatment selection for the patellar fractures

Abstract

Between 1992-1996 32 patients with patella fractures were studied retrospectively. Treatment methods were conservative in 5, osteosynthesis in 19, partial patellectomy in 5 and total patellectomy in 3. Average follow-up periods were 27.3 months. The results were evaluated by Levack scoring system. 80% of the group treated conservatively, 66.6% of total patellectomy group and 52.6% of osteosynthesis group had good results. The worst results were obtained in patients treated with partial patellectomy. Regarding to these results, the relationship between type of fractures and the choice of treatments was reviewed.
