Bilateral xanthoma of the Achilles tendon

Abstract

Xanthoma is associated with a specific disturbance of lipid metabolism. Xanthoma of the Achilles tendon is a rather rare disease. 173 cases were found in the English literature by Fahey. Only fifteen of them had surgical treatment of their lesions. The extensor tendons of the hands are most frequently involved and the Achilles tendon is the next most frequent site of involvement. We present a patient with bilateral xanthoma of the Achilles tendon who had excision. No recurrence was seen during a follow-up of one year.
