Treatment of the fractures of the distal part of the femur with interlocking intramedullary nailing

Abstract

Fractures of the distal part of the femur in 5 patients were treated with interlocking intramedullary nailing between November 1995 and December 1996. According to AO classification system three patients were type A1 and two were type A3. Postoperatively, early mobilization exercises were begun and when callus formation was seen weight-bearing was allowed. At an average duration of follow-up of 10 months, all fractures had healed. There were no malunions and infections. In one patient, fracture healed with two centimeters of shortening. The functional results were assessed with the modified knee-rating system of the Hospital for Special Surgery. 20 per cent had an excellent result; 60 per cent, a good result; 20 per cent, a fair result. We concluded that interlocking intramedullary nailing is an excellent technique for supracondylar and simple intercondylar fractures.

Distal femur kırıklarda intramedüller kilitli retrograd çivi uygulaması

Öz

Kasım 1995 ve Aralık 1996 yılları arasında 5 adet femur distal uç kırıklı olgu intramedüller kilitli çivi ile tedavi edildi. Olguların üçü AO sınıflamasına göre Al, ikisi A3 olarak değerlendirildi. Ameliyat sonrası erken eklem hareketine başlandı ve kallus dokusu görülmesi sonrası yük verdirildi. Olgular ortalama 10 ay takip edildi. Kaynamama, enfeksiyon, yara problemi gibi komplikasyonlar olmadı, 1 olguda 2 cm kısalık sap-tandı. Fonksiyonel sonuçlar Hospital for Special Surgery modifiye knee-rating sistem ile değerlendirildi. %20 mükemmel, %60 iyi ve %20 orta sonuç bulundu. Bu çalışma sananda suprakondiler ve basit interkondiler kırıklarda intramedüler kilitli çivilemenin kullanılabilir bir yöntem olduğu sonucuna varıldı.
