An intramuscular lipoma case of the lower extremity

Abstract

Intramuscular lipoma is a rare, infiltrating albeit benign soft tissue tumour which tends to localize in the thigh and shoulder region. It usually occurs in an older age group. The physical examination, magnetic resonance imaging, and excisional biopsy are essential for differential diagnosis with liposarcoma. The treatment is total resection of the involved muscles because of high recurrence rates. A case of intramuscular lipoma in the proximal extensor muscle group of a 15 year old girl's right leg has been presented since it has occurred in a younger age group and in distal location of the extremity as opposed to proximal in present literature.

Öz

İntramüsküler lipom derin yerleşimli, ender rastlandığı düşünülen, genellikle uyluk ve omuz bölgesinde rastlanan, selim karakterli olmasına karşın infiltratif özelliği nedeniyle sıklıkla nüks gösteren bir yumuşak doku tümörüdür. Bu yazıda, literatürde bildirilen olgulardan yaşı küçük ve yerleşimi ekstremite distalinde ol-ması açısından farklı olan, 15 yaşında sağ tibia proksimalinde ekstensör adele grubu içerisinde yeralan bir intramüsküler lipom olgusu sunulmuştur.
