Closed reduction and percutaneous pinning results in children with supracondylar humerus fractures
Abstract
26 patients were included in this study. Patients with supracondylar humerus extension type III fractures were treated by closed reduction and percutaneous pinning under image intensifier within emergency conditions. Mean age of our 26 cases was 8.5 years(3-14 years). Mean follow up period is about 17.7 months; patients were evaluated by Flynn’s criteria. According to this criteria; 100% satisfactory clinical results and 96% satisfactory radiological results were obtained. It is proved statisticaly that the reduction which is achived was maintained by comparing the early post op X-rays of injured elbows with the radiological findings of uninjured elbows of the same patients. As a result it is concluded that closed reduction and percutaneous pinning is one of the effective treatment method for the supracondylar humerus fractures in children.
