Localized pigmented villonodular synovitis of the knee: report of four cases

Abstract

Localized pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) is a rare idiopathic disease, usually associated with symptoms mimicking those of other intraarticular pathologies. The disease usually affects a single joint, the knee joint being the most common joint. Total resection is the preferred treatment. Recurrence is very rare. In this study we present four cases of localized PVNS (1 male, 3 females, at the ages of 36, 19, 59, and 26 years) who were treated with arthroscopic intervention. Clinical results were favorable during follow-up and no early recurrences were encountered.
