Patella is the largest sesamoid bone in the body. Fractures of patella constitute about 1% of all skeletal injuries and occur in all age groups. The mean age for these fractures is reported to be between 40 and 50 years. Men predominate in a ratio of nearly 2/1. We reviewed the records of 80 patella fractured patients whose cases were diagnosed between 1974-1984 at the SSK Göztepe Hospital and 38 patients were analyzed after mean follow-up of six years (range 3 to 11 years). At the end of our studies, we have concluded that in the knee joint, the radiologically degenerative changes were increasing by our follow-up duration in patella fractures.

Patella vücudun en büyük sesamoid kemiğidir. Tüm iskelet sistemi travmalarının %1ini teşkil eden patella kırıkları, bütün yaş gruplarında görülebilir. Bazı ülkelerde 40-50 yaşlar arası sık görülen patella kırıklarda erkek kadın oranı 2/1dir. SSK Göztepe Hastanesi Ortopedi ve Travmatoloji Kliniğinde 1974-1984 yılları arasında başvuran ve tedavisi yapılan 80 patella kırığı incelendi. 3 ila 11 yıl arasında ortalama 6 yıl izlediğimiz 38 olgunun bulgularının değerlendirilmesi yapıldı. Çalışmamız sonunda, patella kırıklarında takip süremiz uzadıkça diz ekleminde radyolojik degenaratif değişikliklerin arttığı sonucuna varıldı.
