Administration of Bactrim in orthopaedic cases

Abstract

Bactrim has been systemicaliy administered intramusculary and orally with definite doses and duration on 47 patients an whom conservative treatment has been adapted upon their admission to the clinic of orthopaedics and traumatology of the medical school of the İstanbul University. In cases considered necessary antibiotics have also been administered in association with Bactrim in compliance with conciusions derived from the antibiogramic examination. Results obtained have been assesed as regards to the clinical course and the index of infection in these cases Bactrim has been routinely given 2x1 intramusculoriy on the first day and on the following days 2x2 orally, per day for 5 days, and subsequently 2x1 per day for about 15 days. It has been conciuded that Bactrim may be used in aseptic cases of orthopaedics and traumatology and furthermore that it is beneficial to use it in association with antibiotics to avoid infection at a shorter period of time since it does not cause cress reaction in infected cases.

ORTOPEDİK OLGULARDA BACTRİM UYGULAMASI

Öz

İ. Ü. İ. Tıp Faküitesi Ortopedi ve Travmatoloji Kliniğinde yatarak operatif ve konservatif tedavi gören 47 olguya sistemik olarak, belirli dozlarda ve sürelerde Bactrim, İ.M. ve oral yolla uygulanmıştır. Gerekli görülen olgularda Bactrim ne birlikte, yapılan antibiogram sonucuna göre antibiotik verilmiştir. Sonuçlar klinik seyir ve infeksion İndeksine göre değeriendirmeye tabi tutulmuşlur. Olgularda Bactrim rutin olarak ilk gün 2x1 İ. M., sonraki günler, günde 2x2 tablet dozunda 5 gün, daha sonra 2x1 dozunda, ortalama 15 gün devam edilmiştir. Ortopedi ve Travmatolojinin aseptik olgularında Bactrim'in rutin olarak kullanılması ve ayrıca infeksionlu olgularda da, çapraz reaksion yapmadığından dolayı, infeksionun daha kısa sürede önünün alınmasında, antibiotikierle birlikte kullanılmasının yararlı olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.
