The Problem of Total Knee Arthroplasty

Abstract

There were implanted 13 Guepar and 6 GSB prosthesis. We observed one loosening, two cases of Chondromalacia patellae and one exitus letalis. The patients suffering from Chondromalacia patellae were submitted conservative treatment. Flexion contracures as well as deformities of the frontal eivel, which have been existed preoperatively, had been eliminated almost totally. The range of motion of the operatively treated joints was significantiy improved. The patients postoperativefy were without pains. We suggest in cases of patients, older than 60 years, suffering from painfull degenerative changes of the knee joints, the implantation of total knee arthroplasty instead of knee arthrodesis.
