Arthroscopic meniscectomy with local anesthesia
Abstract
Arthroscopy has been widely used in our country as a most reliable method in the treatment of meniscus lesions. In our clinic, between January 96 and August 97, 145 knee arthroscopy were carried out by local anesthesia and in 70 knees of 69 patients. Meniscus tears, observed during arthroscopy were treated surgically by arthroscopic meniscectomy. The cases classified by age, sex, etiology, diagnosis and treatment. 70 meniscal tears distributed as follows; 34 (48.57%) medial meniscus, 28 (40%) lateral meniscus and 8 (11.43%) both. The youngest case was 17 years old while the oldest was 68 and the mean age was 32.5.8 cases were female and 61 were male. 78 meniscus tears were treated by arthroscopic meniscectomy, 52 underwent partial, 20 subtotal. 6 cases were treated by shaver-abrasion. Local anesthesia with intraarticular Lidocain was carried out of all the cases.
