Cast-Brace Treatment for Fractures of the Femur

The Cast-Brace application had been done in 12 patients with 13 fractures of the femur between 1975-1976 in the Departments of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology of Gülhane Militaray Medical Academy and Ankara Mevki Hospital. The technique of the Cast-Brace application was described. The results and the complications were discussed and the Cast-Brace application was suggested in adult femoral fractures in following situations:
1. Open femoral fractures,
2. Comminuter femoral fractures,
3. The localisation of the fracture is not suitable for I.M. Nailing,
4. The equipment for classical I.M. Nailing is inadequate.

Öz

Gülhane Askeri Tıp Akademisi ve Ankara Mevki Hastanesi Ortopedi ve Travmatoloji Kliniklerinde 1975-1976 yıllarında 12 hastanın 13 taze femur kırığına Cast-Brace uygulaması yapılmış ve sonuçlar sunulmuştur. Cast-Brace uygulama tekniği anlatılmıştır. Sonuçlar ve komplikasyonlar tartışılmış ve yetişkinlerin femur cisim kırıklarında aşağıdaki hallerde Cast-Brace uygulaması önerilmiştir.
1. Açık femur kırıklarında,
2. Parçalı femur kırıklarında,
3. Lokalizasyon olarak İ.M. Çivilemenin uygun olmadığı hallerde,
4. Klasik İ.M. Çivileme için yeterli gereç olmadığı hallerde.
