The Effects of Training and Development on Performance and The Role of Supervisor Support: A Literature Review

Abstract

Training and development as a human resources management function is an important investment area in organizations. Organizations try to determine the contribution and return of training and development investment. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of training and development on organizational and individual performance and the role of supervisory support in this process. A literatüre review was conducted to examine and verify the relations. As a result of the literature review findings, some suggestions were developed for future research and practical implications. There are empirical studies supporting the effect of training on organizational and individual performance in international literature and there are not enough studies in the national literature. Empirical studies on the role of the supervisor support in the relationship between training and organizational and individual performance are very limited in both international and national literature. Therefore empirical studies in this area should be developed.
