Visual representations of environment and climate change: An analysis of numismatic and philatelic materials

the themes of environment and climate change. The research is significant in demonstrating that these materials are not merely aesthetic and collectible objects, but also function as communicative tools aimed at raising environmental awareness. The study was conducted using a qualitative research approach, and data were collected through document analysis. Within this scope, commemorative coins, postage stamps, and first-day covers produced between 2008 and 2022 were analyzed. The findings indicate that environmental representations such as cracked earth, water droplets, melting glaciers, and marine life are commonly employed in the examined designs. In this regard, it was observed that an anthropocentric approach dominated in earlier works, whereas more recent designs increasingly reflect a nature-centered narrative. In conclusion, it is determined that the materials under study serve a strong communicative function in fostering awareness of environmental and climate change issues.
