The evolving role of digital environments in art education: A thematic review of contributions, limitations, and media literacy
Öz
This study investigates the role of digital environments in art education through a literature-based review, evaluating the transformations that have emerged in art education processes with the widespread adoption of digital technologies. The analysis focuses on areas of application, pedagogical contributions, limitations, and the relationship between digital environments and media literacy within art education, utilizing a thematic framework. The research examines the concept of art education, the integration of digital environments into educational processes, the use of digital platforms, and the advantages and limitations that result. Additionally, the study addresses the role of media literacy in art education and evaluates how teachers and students utilize digital content. The findings demonstrate that digital environments significantly contribute to art education by supporting students’ creativity, facilitating access to information, and enhancing interactive learning. Nevertheless, challenges such as diminished originality in production, uncontrolled use of digital content, access inequalities, and digital dependency are identified. Ultimately, the effects of integrating digital environments into art education depend on the manner of use, the pedagogical context, and the user's competencies. The development of media literacy skills is essential for the conscious and effective use of digital environments.
