Assessment of an Effective Quantitative Model for Aesthetic Factors in Planting Design Using a Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Method
Öz
Plants are living materials that are widely used in the discipline of landscape architecture and help the perception of spaces. This study aims to enhance spatial perception in open green spaces by considering aesthetic elements such as color, form, texture, and size in planting design. The study is conducted at Bursa Technical University (BTU) Mimar Sinan Campus. The main criteria such as color, form, texture, and size, which are considered aesthetically important, and the sub-criteria belonging to these criteria, are classified within the scope of the study. The classified criteria groups are evaluated and ranked using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), a Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) method. Results indicate that size is the most critical factor in planting design, with fine-textured materials ranking highest among sub-criteria. The findings offer guidance for creating open green spaces that support educational and recreational activities while adopting a participatory management approach to planting design.
