A Study on Light Transmission through Porcelain and Exhibition
Öz
Porcelain, a type of ceramic, has unique structural and visual properties with its whiteness, light transmission and thinness. These properties of the material not only determine its aesthetic value, but also affect the visual experience in exhibition. This study focuses on the light transmission properties of artworks created with porcelain material and their effects on exhibition.
First of all, the structural properties of porcelain are discussed. By evaluating porcelain as an art material, the form and thinness of the material affecting the light transmission, the textures on its surface and coloring methods were examined.
After discussing the concept of exhibition and the elements affecting the exhibition, personal applications were carried out to determine the advantages and disadvantages provided by artificial light and natural light by considering the light factor in the exhibition of translucent porcelains. In the applications, porcelain pieces were created by giving place to the formal elements affecting the light transmission property and photographed by making exhibition trials in both natural light and artificial light. The effects of the color choice used in the background in photographing the artworks with artificial light were also investigated. After the applications, the results were compared and evaluated.
